Never Give Up!
Added Monday 06.07.2009
What makes a person different? Why do some people choose the road less travelled? Is it in their nature to be different or is it just circumstance? Every now and again we see some people achieve amazing feats, sometimes appearing against all odds. Sometimes you can be pushed, and pushed, and pushed... when do you give up? When do you throw in the towel? Many of us have been in the situation where nothing seems to be going right and the world seems out to get us. Unfortunately we can only use the cards we are dealt, but it is so much more than that! It is the will power and the energy to stand up and be counted when no body else will. At the end of the day when you are boxed in a corner with no way out you have two choices... you can wallow in the shadows and give up, or you can hold on, fight to the bitter death, never giving up, giving 110 percent when you only had 50 percent left. The truth is, you have to earn success. Success won't come to those who do nothing, or constantly doing the same thing.
Be different. Try new things. Success may not come at the first attempt. What are 'you' willing to do to find it? Many people fail time and time again before they get the formula right. Yes, we've all heard of them. How many times has Richard Branson's businesses flopped? How many movies have you seen with Morgan Freeman when he was young? It is the same for me and you. Failure isn't pleasant, nor is it easy. Fail the first time - ok no dramas, second time lucky. Fail the second time - very bad luck. Fail the third time - this isn't easy, now what? When will you stop? Ask yourself this - how many times do you need to be successful? The answer, just one. Never give up. Fail a million times, succeed once.
If you are still holding in there, you will find there will be a tipping point. Things begin to change. Maybe a little success at first, you may not even notice it. Then a little more success, then a little more. Soon you will be saying to yourself, 'hey, isn't this easy?' Hmmm. The hardest part is often beginning the journey. The easy part is often the part everybody else is doing.
So, for all of you at the fork in the road, still waiting for the tipping point, I would like to share some words of wisdom that were given to me (and now sit above my computer in my office):
"Press on.
Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not: unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education alone will not: The world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."
